Hyundai has been trying to expand their portfolio with wide range of cars that impress buyers of different levels. This time Hyundai has decided to come up with their new 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco which is probably the most fuel efficient mid-size sedan apart from the hybrid model that Hyundai launched earlier. This would be the third model to the 2015 Sonata lineup and the new Eco model sits between the base model and the higher Sonata 2.0T version. In terms of exterior styling, Hyundai ensures that they do not mess up and make it look too sporty. Hence, it gets a tall and nice curvy structure that is very appealing and elegant. According to Hyundai the sedan gets Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 treatment which is crisp, but again it is not much different from the other Hyundai sedan models.
The sedan is powered by 1.6 liter turbocharged engine which a smaller version of Hyundai’s Gamma four-cylinder engine. The engine does have great performance and it produces 177 horsepower and 195 lb feet of torque. Hyundai has mated the engine with its first ever seven speed dual clutch automatic transmission. This sedan is certainly going to be better than the earlier hybrid model with EPA ratings that are quite impressive. It offers EPA ratings of 28 mpg in the city, 38 mpg on the highway and 32 mpg combined. The performance of 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco is 10% better than the base model.
The interior of the sedan is simple and therefore it does not offer anything new to the buyers. The emphasis is all on the fuel efficiency and 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco certainly rivals other cars like Ford Fusion sedan and Mazda 6 that also have similar smaller engines that focus on fuel efficiency rather than performance. While Hyundai has not mentioned the official price of the sedan it will certainly be above the base model price which is $21,150 in the US market.
