In the realm of small cars within the A-segment, the 2022 Toyota Aygo X has emerged as a showstopper. Taking a bold approach, the Japanese automaker has incorporated certain design elements typically associated with SUVs, lending the Aygo X a rugged aesthetic.
Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the Aygo city car, Toyota‘s latest offering, the Aygo X (pronounced “Aygo cross”), is poised to become the company’s most compact SUV. The previous Aygo has enjoyed robust sales since its introduction in 2014. Manufactured at the Czech Republic plant in partnership with PSA models like the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108, the Aygo has cemented its place in the automotive market.
On the other hand, Toyota will develop the Aygo X design from scratch as a purely Toyota creation, and it will not be a collaborative effort with French manufacturers. Furthermore, Toyota plans to build the new model on its GA-B platform and increase its size compared to its predecessor. Interestingly, the Aygo X will share the same foundation as its larger sibling, the Toyota Yaris, lending it a degree of structural similarity.
The new model draws inspiration from this year’s Aygo X Prologue concept car with a subtle aesthetic. Nevertheless, the Aygo X retains the rugged charm of its prototype, evoking the image of a mini-crossover. Although it is not intended to be a serious off-road vehicle, the vehicle’s stylistic enhancements aim to appeal to a younger demographic. The chic Aygo X becomes an attractive option in the small car category thanks to Toyota’s marketing strategy.
